Severe Abdominal Pain, Dizziness, Irritability, Consumed 20 Tablets Of Dolo, 6 Tablets Of Tapentadol. Serious?
Question: Hi Doctor, my friend has consumed 20 tablets of Dolo 650mg (acetaminophen tablet) & 6 tablets of Tapentadol 100mg in a single dose last night. The intention is still not known. But he started complaining severe abdominal pain, dizziness & Irritability. It’s more than 24hours since he has taken pills. Will he be alright?? I want to know the complications he might develop later with above dosage if he is not provided proper medical care??

You should suggest your friend to immediately consult a physician or a gastroenterologist at the earliest.
The drugs which he has consumed cause a lot of gastritis and are metabolized by the liver.
There’s a risk of an acute damage to the liver. This can be assessed by doing the liver functions tests like SGOT/SGPT and PT/INR.
If the liver functions are okay, then it takes away a lot of worries. The long term damage usually doesn’t occur.
Whatever damage happens, happens during the first 24 hours after taking the pills. There’s also a risk of damage to the inner lining of the stomach (gastritis).
For this, he will require drugs which protect the inner lining of the stomach like pantoprazole, sucralfate etc.
Your friend might require hospitalization and intravenous fluids to flush off the drugs from the system.
