Question: I am on plavix and want to have total knee replace ment in the spring should I go off plavix now I have been on it since mt stent may 30th 2013 Can I just quit because there is no more refills from the heart doctor

Spring is still a long way and stopping this medication should cannot be in preparation of surgery in spring. The decision to continue this medication or not should be made by your cardiologist. Ask him directly if it is his decision that you go off this medication or he's just forgotten to get it refilled. The perceived risk of a possible blood clot would be best evaluated by your cardiologist.

In all, stopping plavix in preparation for surgery is too early. Ask your doctor if that's his decision for you to stop this medication. He would directly address this.
