Should A CT Scan Be Done For Forehead Injuries?
he got severe injuries in forehead.
we got him stiched from hospital. The patient is behaving normal . should we go through CT scan for checking any internal injuries??
If he's not having any symptoms, don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. I looked over the history you gave me. Without knowing the details of the injury I can say this.
As a Neurosurgeon theses are the symptoms and signs that really make me scared and make me ask for a CT scan.
1) Confusion for > 1 hour after the injury
2) Severe fatigue, where the person is unable to stay awake
3) Bleeding from the ears
4) Slurred speech
5) Difficulty for the patient to focus or count fingers
6) Memory loss that expands beyond the injury itself.
7) Bleeding from the nose.
8) Vomiting
9) Seizures
If your friend is exhibiting any of they symptoms, then i would take him for a CT scan immediately. Given that this injury happened last night.. i would assume he is already out of any danger zone.
If you feel that any of these criteria match, we can discuss further certainly, but the first thing i am going to say is get a CT of the brain WITHOUT contrast. So do that first in that situation.
Hope this helps,
Vinay
