Should One Seek Medical Assistance For Difficulty In Getting Pregnant?

Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Hi,

We are actively planning to have second baby for more than 7 months. But not successful until now. I delivered my first child in Aug 2011 through C section as my kid was in breech presentation. I had no complications during pregnancy and delivery. I am a vegetarian and follow decent diet. No habit of drinking and smoking. I am taking MHR folic acid tablets. My periods are pretty regular and I have a 34 day cycle.

Please help me in understanding what kind of medical assistance should I seek to conceive successfully. My husband’s age is 32.

Brief Answer:
Tests advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
It is common to try for 6-9 months before conception so generally nothing to worry.
But in case you are very anxious get the following tests done viz - TSH, prolactin, RBS and semen analysis of husband.
Also I would like to know the pattern of your periods so as to advise you accordingly.
Waiting for your response

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for responding so quickly. I have a regular 34 day cycle. Last month it got postponed by 10 days before getting my periods. Could you also suggest if the folic acid tablet I am using MHR is a good one? or you suggest me to use anything else? My friends say I could get USG of abdomen to know when the egg gets released. Is that even required?

Awaiting your response.

Thank you,
XXXXX

Brief Answer:
Continue Folic acid

Detailed Answer:
Hello welcome again. You should continue your daily Folic acid. There is no need to get USG for ovulation yet. You can have intercourse on alternate days from 10th to 18th day of your periods. Regards Dr Manisha Jain.
