Should There Be Testicular Pain After Kidney Donation?

Question: My son donated one of his kidneys to me in July of 2009. Since then he has been through nothing but pain in his testicle area. He had some nerves removed, then his left testicle removed, and the Doctors at the Mayo Clinic seem to have no idea of what went wrong. Have you come across a case like this. My son was 34 years old and in good health when he donated his left kidney. We are frustrated that there seems to be no solution to this problem.
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
It is very difficult for me to ascertain the exact cause of his testicular pain.
However, from your description it appears to be more of a dysfunction of nerves rather than testis.
Most likely some nerves have got entrapped in the sutures or having been cut and are troubling him.
There is no absolute solution for this problem.
However, you can make him have Vitamin B 12 formulations.
In addition, apply mild steriod cream below the area of the scar.
Allopathy has not enough medications to soothen the nerves; May be you should try homeopathy.
I will be available for your further queries if any.

What I wanted to know is if you know if any cases such as this where the donor has experienced nerve pain in the testicular area as a reaction to donating a kidney?
What was done to alleviate the problem?
I don't think the nerves got entrapped in the sutures. Some nerve tissue was removed connecting to the testicles, but that didn't help his situation. Some six months later, the doctors removed his left testicle and yet, he is still experiencing pain.
He has been to a neurologist and a pain specialist and they have no clue how to solve his problem.
Now the Mayo Clinic is telling him that they want to relieve themselves of responsibility for his case and they no longer want to help him. I think that they don't want to take responsibility for their mistake(s).
After you make another response, I may have more questions and/or have more information.

Hi,
Thanks for your query,
55% of men undergoing donor nephrectomty complain of pain in the testicular region on the side of the surgery.Men who develop pain will also be in the younger age bracket(Within 45yrs).
Anybody can develop any symptoms as part of depression complex after doing a major act such as donation of kidney. However, such patients will usually stop short of second surgery; but your son has got even his testicle removed.
You can give him pain killers like Tynelol to reduce the pain.
If you still feel that it may be psychological pain rather than physical then you should see pyschiatrist for the same.
Hope you are satisfied with my answer.
Wishing you good health
