Sores In Mouth, Painful To Swallow. Why Is There Redness And Pain In Palms? Hand Foot And Mouth Disease?
Thanks for posting your query.
Hand foot and mouth disease is a viral infection common in children , but can affect adults rarely.
A brief prodrome of 12-36 hours duration is the start of the usual presentation of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), which consists of the following:
Low-grade fever ,Anorexia,Malaise,Abdominal pain,Sore mouth or Cough.
After that oral lesions are seen which begin as redness that evolve into vesicles (blisters) which rapidly become ulcerated. They are painful and may interfere with eating.
Typically, the hands, feet, and buttocks are involved. The hands are involved more often than the feet, and the dorsal aspect of the hands and sides of the fingers are more commonly involved than the palm. The lesions begins are as reddish blisters characteristically elliptical; along the skin lines. These lesions are asymptomatic and resolve in 3-7 days .
For diagnosis , generally no lab tests are required.Your doctor can diagnose it after a thorugh physical examination of the oral and skin lesions. The conditions which are similar to HFMD are,
Aphthous Stomatitis,Chickenpox,Erythema Multiforme,Herpes Simplex or other such viral infection.
In your case the description of your symptoms seems most probably resembling that of HFMD rather than any other condition.
Usually, no medical care is necessary for hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), as most cases are mild. The topical application of anesthetics is beneficial. Viscous lidocaine, dyclonine solution, or diphenhydramine may be used by your doctor to treat painful oral ulcers. Antipyretics analgesics like acetaminophen, ibuprofen may be used to manage fever, and pain.
The prognosis for hand-foot-and-mouth disease is excellent; Desquamation of palms and soles may develop after the infection .
Overall if your symptoms do not worsen and resolve within a week or two then you might consider it to be a mild viral infection like HFMD , however confirmation of diagnosis is always advisable by consulting your doctor for a physical examination to rule out other infections or complications. So I would advise you to wait and watch for the progression of symptoms and if you develop any new symptom like pain, fever, diarrhoea, etc then please seek prompt consultation.
Hope that answers your query.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
