Question: Hi . My Son is suffering from dry cough for the last 2 years in Bangalore and particularly during the spring season, it becomes worse. The cough during the daytime is very less but before he goes for sleep, he coughs continuously for minimum one hour and once he sleeps, he doesn;t wake up and takes sound sleep. Chest xray and pns is normal. CBC, ESR is normal. But IgE is on a higher side, 278. He has been recommended Asthalin and Flohale rotacaps but it has not helped much after taking for the last 6 days. Even, he is taking metaspray and montek LC Kidtab. Pl suggest if any changes required in the medication and if any further tests required. Cough starts in the evening particularly. We have tried putting steamer in the room as well but it is not helping.
We are not getting clearly whether this allergy is due to Pollens in bangalore or due to some foods. Tried avoiding milk as well for some days as per recommendation from the doctor but it didn't help.

Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to XXXXXXX

Your son's cough seems go be allergic only.
Medicines are OK.

We have to Try to find out the cause of allergy.

Blood tests and skin tests are possibilities.
But still may not be very useful.

Try the following

Keep a diary and note down what are the things he is exposed to daily including food fruits etc,

Use vacuum for the house to remove fine dust.

Avoid crowded places.

Try avoiding citrus fruits like lemon and oranges . Even bananas can cause problems in some.

Avoid perfumes sprays.

Give him early dinner as full stomach causes cough to increase.

If there is no family history of athma, or allergies,he will get over this by time.

Bangalore was very notorious for parthanium weeds .

Good luck
God bless
