She had a delivery on 19th Mar'12 and has gained weight during her pregnancy. She did not have this pain before her maternity.

The hormone progesterone rises to more than three times the normal level during pregnancy.
This is responsible for causing muscle relaxation.
Her joints need muscles for their support and even one year after the happy event, it is possible that she still have increased mobility of her joints compared with before she became pregnant.
The crackling sound she describe may be due to the knee ligaments being more lax than usual.
These symptoms usually diminish with time as your hormones revert to normal and she manage to lose a little weight.
The following measures will help with the pain
Do regular Exercise. Exercise can increase your endurance and strengthen the muscles around joint, making her joint more stable. Stick to gentle exercises, such as walking or swimming.
Lose weight - Being overweight or obese increases the stress on your weight-bearing joints, such as knees. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce pain.
Use heat and cold to manage pain. Both heat and cold can relieve pain in joint. Heat also relieves stiffness and cold can relieve muscle spasms.
Apply over-the-counter pain creams. Creams and gels available at the drugstore may provide temporary relief from pain.
Take diet XXXXXXX in calcium, vitamin d3 and minerals.
Hope this helps you.. Please do write back if you have any additional concerns.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
