Suggest A Diet Plan For A Stage 4 Kidney Patient

Diet plan
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
You have asked one of the commonly asked questions in the clinic. Here are your answers, I shall answer them one by one
1. You can only eat apples, papaya, guava ( without seed) and grapes ( without seed) not more than 3-4 times a week and in moderation.
2. Do not consume mangoes, mosambi, pineapple, tender coconut water and oranges. They contain very high potassium
3. You can safely eat all vegetables. They have to be boiled first and the water thrown away and then boiled again. There is no restriction on vegeables.
4. You can consume all milk products but when it comes to butter milk please make sure it is not salted. And also make sure to add this to your fluid restriction of about 1 litre a day. You can also consume coffee and tea in moderation ( 2 times a day)
5. Please drink green tea and herbal tea.
I hope I was of help, I am sure you will have more doubts please get back to me so that I clear them
Regards

High phosphorus
Detailed Answer:
Hello
High phosphorus is expected in chronic kidney disease. I don't recommend that you have a normal vegetarian diet but please avoid chocolates and aerated drinks.
I usually put my patients on sevelamer carbonate three times daily. I suggest the same to you, it's a little more expensive than lanthanum but works better

Detailed Answer:
Hello
You can ask me any number of questions, I am always happy to get back.
1. Fluid restriction includes tea, coffee, butter milk, etc. Basically anything in liquid form including curd
2. We ask to drink plenty of water in patients who have normal kidney function with urinary tract infection. Water restriction is mandatory for patients with renal failure. There is no question of dehydration in patients with renal failure as excretion is lesser than intake most of the times. The only situation when there is dehydration is when renal failure patients have vomiting, diarrhea or over treatment with diuretic tablets like frusinex, etc
I did not get what your last question 'drastic restriction of water intake'. Could you please let me know what you have in mind.
Regards

Thanks for the reply; I am till now accustomed to drink 21/2 to 3 litres of water daily, thatwhy to curtail it to one litre daily appeared to me as "drastic" reduction;Anyhow , I shall try to adjust to this new requirement , at least after summer season ; Thanks once again as my doubts are all clarified.

Hello
Thanks for getting back
I usually tell my patients to adjust their intake based on urine output. For example if your urine output is about 800 ml per day, you can drink around 1200 ml of fluids ( 500ml for respiratory loss and loss while sweating). If your urine output is say 400 ml, then 400+500=900ml of fluid.
This is my method of allowing fluids, however this calls for strict measuring of urine though a urine can or else you will end up in volume overload. You can try this out for a couple of days, if your start getting swelling of the legs then reduce your water intake by 20%.
