Can Liver Function Or Kidney Function Be The Reason For Imbalance?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I have hep-c, my enzymes seem to be with in normal limits, my gtt is high, there is a question about my clotting time- one lab has it high and another normal, here is my question: I am a female, post-menopause,my BUN is39H creatinine is1.80H the ratio is 22, the GFR non--afr-american is 29L the GFR AFR american is 35L. I have been on Torsemide 20mg and aldactone 50mg for years. Is this imbalance more likely a liver function or a kidney function? And what is GFR Non/AFRICAN AMERICAN?

Hi,

All your readings are on higher side. GTT is a measurement of your glucose levels after a glucose diet. Increased GTT, indicates, that body is not able to eliminate the glucose from body efficiently, as required. Also, raised BUN, CREATININE and BUN / CREATININE RATIO. This shows that body is not able to clear the end products of proteins thru kidney.

Also, a decreased GFR shows a slow clearance of these products. These, all the readings primarily point to some disorders of kidney functions. Your clotting time, if increased, may be an indication of liver disorder, but seeing all the provided reports, only point to kidney pathology and particularly when the reports of 2 labs for clotting time also vary, therefore it may not be relied on.

GFR reading are some what vary depending on the race and ethnicity of a person and hence, it has been shown for your ethnicity i.e., non-African American. In short, you are required to see a nephrologist now for proper evaluation of your health status & treatment done accordingly, if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
