Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Pantoprazole

Question: Hope so - My doctor changed my rx from pantoprazole sodium, 40 mg to Protonix Pak, 40 mg. I retired from Pfizer years ago, that's why I requested Protonix - it's free for me. The new rx is to be taken with 1 tsp of applesauce. What happens if it take it with more than 1 tsp and a couple sips of water?

I am a Gastroenterologist and would be addressing your concerns.

Protonix and Pantoprazole sodium both are same thing.
1tsf=5m which contains granules equilvalent to 40mg of pantoprazole.
Doses of pantoprazole as high as 160mg a day are safe and well tolerated by patients.However normally used dose is 40 mg per day.
As per your query yes you can increase the quantity of medicine but it should be done only if your symptoms are not relieved by 1 tsf.
Yes it can be taken with water however for best action you should take it early morning empty stomach and should not have food for atleast half and hour after taking it.
