Suggest Alternative Medicine For Ear Infection Apart From Augmentin
Get ears rechecked.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
If it has been 2 weeks since you started the Augmentin and you took all of the antibiotic but are still having ear symptoms, go see a doctor who can look in your ears.
It's possible that the bacterial infection itself has cleared, but after an infection, there can be clear fluid that puts pressure on your ear drums and causes continued pain, pressure, and feeling like your hearing is muffled. The ear drum in that cased does not move any better than it did when there was bacteria/pus behind it, but the actual infection is gone. With serous otitis (as opposed to otitis media - the bacterial infection) the ear drum is a bit red, is pulled inward toward the eustachian tube due to pressure changes, doesn't move well when exposed to an air puff, and some clear fluid bubbles may be seen behind it. This may be the case with what you are feeling. Treatment is a decongestant such as pseudo ephedrine (Sudafed) and an ear recheck after that. The Sudafed shouldn't be used for more than a week usually, as it can just dry up the secretions instead of getting rid of them.
So that might be going on. But if you are having fevers and feeling ill, it's possible that you still have bacterial ear infections. Only way to know is to have a doctor take a look to see if the ear drum has pus behind it.
If possible, see an ENT doctor, but if not, your primary care physician or urgent care physician should be able to help.
If you smoke cigarettes, do try to quit as this can delay resolution of infections.
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
