Suggest Alternative To Hormonal Pills
Allergy?
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Menopause is when your own ovaries quit making estradiol and progesterone. Both of these hormones are available in commercial products exactly the same as they were made from your ovary. Therefore I do not understand what you mean by allergy. You do not have to take hormones unless your symptoms are so severe as to warrant treatment.
The amount that you need for the control of hot flashes is usually only about a quarter of what your ovaries produce themselves in a normal cycle. Some people do not do well with oral estrogen because of its uneven metabolism.
However there are estrogen gels or patches that will give you a more even level and you should tolerate that well. Progesterone is mildly sedated and is usually not a problem with patients prone to anxiety. I would recommend taking it at bedtime as it can make you a little sleepy. You only need a small amount somewhere around 50 or hundred mg. Women who were prone to anxiety sometimes do worse when hormones are withdrawn at menopause because hormones help to stabilize neurochemicals responsible for keeping the mood even. I hope you're feeling better soon.
