Suggest An Alternative Medication For Doxycycline

Question: My son has acne absess suspected MRSA. Sulfa helps but he breaks out in a rash. Doxycycline doesn't help as much. Should we try clindamycin?

I would advise his the following:
Since there is abscess formation, this is the best chance to send the pus for gram staining, culture and sensitivity and to treat the infection as per the reports.
This will help in getting the most appropriate antibiotic that will be precise and effective.
Once the pus has been sent for the tests, he can be started with Clindamycin under the guidance and prescription of your Doctor.
