Hi,
As in any part of the body, hair is likely to be damaged if some one decides to fast or restricts from eating. You need a balanced diet containing good amount of proteins, vitamins and mineral to maintain a healthy hair and to avoid hair fall.
Accordingly you need to include the following in your diet:
- Make sure your diet is properly balanced. A proper mix of cereals, pulses, green vegetables and yoghurt is likely to give you a heathly hair than an unbalanced diet.
- Include lots of proteins in your diet. If you are a non vegetarian include meat, fish (salmon/sardines), poultry meat, eggs in your diet. If you are a vegetarian milk, soya, lentils, grams, peas and nuts will help you.
- Take lots of fruits and vegetables. Citrus fruits such as oranges, strawberries, blue berry; green leaves (spinach), tomato, root vegetables such as potatoe, turnip, radish and so on are healthy hair supplements.
- Milk and milk products including yoghurt and low fat / cottage cheese can be beneficial too.
- Never fast or skip meals
Besides these dietary changes it is also important that you maintain proper hair hygiene. I recommend using Nizoral or any other good antidandruff shampoo regularly. Use it twice or thrice a day. Prefer to oil your hair an hour before shampooing. Avoid over night oiling.
If you are losing too many hair (more than 100 hair strands a day), choose to take multivitamin supplements. Biotin forte is one good vitamin pill for hair problems. You can take one pill a day for 2-3 months.
Lastly if you also suffer from dry skin, if your appetite is low and if you also have menstrual irregularities, it is worthwhile to test for anemia and thyroid hormone problems. You can discuss with your local physician and get these test done.
