Suggest Diet Plan For A Person Diagnosed With Pancreatitis

Question: I am just recovering from pancreatitis and wondering what Is the preferred diet? I have been on clear fluids, and just this last Thurs started the BRAT diet. Told to try adding food today, afraid to eat much, but wondering what is best to start adding back? Have read potatoes, sweet or plain good to start with, do you agree??
Brief Answer:
Low fat diet is most important
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Yes this is good to start with.
The most important thing is to have low fat diet since fats may trigger pancreatitis and gallbladder attack. Fried food and alcohol are forbidden completely. Also carbonated drinks should be limited. Proteins should be taken from fish, lean meat and bean. And it should be boiled. Boiled sweet potato is fine. Avoid tobacco and limit coffee. Also, eggs should be limited to 2 per week in next 6 weeks as well as red meat and sweets. Milks should be low fat. All kind of vegetables and fruits are allowed. After 4-6 weeks you can continue with usual diet.
Wish you good health. Regards
