Suggest Dosage For Azithral

Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: My baby is 5 months old weighing 8 kgs. The doctor has prescribed Azithral 100 as he is having a green slimy stool. He already had a viral infection for the last 3 days which looks to be normal now but might have contracted a secondary infection.

My query is the dosage has been given as 4ml once a day for 4 days (20mg/ml). Does this dosage sound ok? I am a bit worried if my baby will be able to cope with this dosage.

Can you please help

Brief Answer:
The dose is correct.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Azithral (azithromycin) is usually given as a 3-day course of 10 mg/kg/day. So, for your child the dose should be 80 mg or 4ml of 20 mg/ml. So, the dose is correct. Do not worry, your baby will be able to cope with this dose.
Regards
