Suggest Dosage For Mebendazole
Question: I have threadworms which I think was contracted in xxxxxx. A HK doctor said to me that they are a more resistant strain to treatment of mebendazole 200mg/day for three days. I have taken this to no avail. I still feel them wriggling every night during the course of treatment! He says i need a far higher dosage. If this is true what Is the highest dosages I could take and for how long? Should I take mebendable or try albendazole instead? I am an otherwise healthy female 5ft2, weighing 55kg
If I am careful with hygiene and not ingest any ova is it possible for them to just all die away? Or wI'll they keep reproducing inside you? If I blocked them off at the anus with petroleum jelly will they just lay eggs on the inside?

I have reviewed your information fully. It is rare to talk of threadworm resistance to albendazole. I have reviewed the various doses and frequency and am sure no worm would resist to this treatment. I feel like the attention on threadworm is somehow obscuring the search for the exact cause pf your symptoms for appropriate treatment.
I will suggest that you get a stool exam to confirm this finding. If for real the diagnosis is confirmed, I will suggest you go with albendazole for treatment and not mebendazole. However, I will be surprised is this test shows the presence of worms.
From the results, we will know whether we should be treating or we should consider re-evaluating you entirely to look for other possible causes.

I'm waiting for test results. Stool sample sent. Im sure i have worms....I've seen them and feel them wriggling in my bits. My family hasn't shown signs of it but it's only been 10days since taking their second dose of mebendazole. Should they be taking another dose 2 weeks after second dose to avoid being infected by potentially newly hatched ingested eggs?
