Suggest Dosage For Meftal-P

Question: Hi Doctor,i gave metal p syrup 4 ml to my child every 4-5 hrs for two days.My child's weight is 15 KGS Age 3 yrs.
Is it an overdose?

Patient is 3 year old female child and suffering from cold,cough and blocked nose.Fever since last 3 days.

.have not visited doctor yet.

Can understand your concerns.

Meftal P contains mefenemic acid.

Dose in children is 6 mg/kg per dose. Each bottle contains 50 mg in 5 ml.

So, if you have given 4 ml, it means equal to 40 mg. So its not an overdose.

But have given 4 ml every 4-5 hrs continuously for 2 days. In total around 10 doses of 4 ml each.
Is this not overdose?

Hi,
Welcome once again.

10 doses of 4ml means 400 mg of mefenemic acid while according to weight 90 mg three times a day will be the right dose.

So, 540 mg is the required dose and you have given 400 mg, so don't worry.
