Suggest Dosage Of Phenibut

Posted on Wed, 25 Nov 2015
Question: Hello.

I have been taking daily approximately 900 mg - 2 grams of phenibut for approximately 3 months. No other medication. The drug alleviates anxiety without any of the sedating effects of a benzo. When I stop taking it I begin to experience rebound anxiety, head tingles, and insomnia. Last night I had a panic attack, which is unusual for me, after drinking. I am primarily concerned that I have caused permanent brain damage. Can you advise on that?

I am looking to taper, what would be the best way to do that?

Brief Answer:
Gradual dose reduction is advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Phenibut is a GABA drug which is used in a number of conditions. The drug helps to alleviate anxiety and acts as mild tranquilliser. If the drug is taken regularly for long and then abrupt dose reduction or stoppage is done then risk of withdrawal remains. The drug doesn't cause permanent brain damage so no need to worry.

To prevent rebound anxiety and relapse of symptoms gradual dose reduction over 6-12 weeks is advised. Best is to reduce doses by 20-25% every two weeks and then stopping at 6-12 weeks. Dose reduction in this manner will not cause withdrawal. Talk to your doctor for gradual dose reduction.

Thanks, Hope this helps you, if you have more doubts you can ask again.
