Suggest Effective Medicine To Gain Focus And Reduce Anxiety

We live in a small rural town in central Mass., not a lot of specialists who have been able to really address some issues concerning my son. He is 34 yrs. old, mild MR, with developmental delays. However, he is high functioning. The problems he has with maintaining focus on a task, distractibility, and following through on a task , is keeping him from having a productive life. He takes Luvox 150 mg, at bed, and Lorazapam 0.05mg in the am. Prior to the Lorazapam, other meds such as Adderall and others were tried, but no change. The Lorazapam has been a slight improvement whereas, he seems less anxious. Up until 2004, he was on Straterra- It was amazing. He was actually employed in a machine shop with a job coach, who he was eventually weaned from. Things were great until the Straterra was D/C due to rise in liver counts. He has gone downhill since. He currently volunteers at a XXXXXXX center, helping in the kitchen. Very limited duties, yet is way too distracted to stay with a task. He could be gainfully employed again if only someone could put us in a direction with an effective medication that would truly help.
clonidine.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your son.
He has responded to Strattera in past. but the drug has to be discontinued due side effects on liver functions.
In my opinion, if strattera has been discontinued, clonidine (non-stimulant anti-hypertensive medication) can used for his ADHD symptoms. This drug, although a third-line agent for ADHD, is gaining popularity for its effects on ADHD symptoms.
It can cause mild alteration in liver functions but its not worrisome.
I would like to tell you that clonidine is a prescription medicine.
You must discuss this with your treating doctor.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to discuss further.
I wish good health for your son.
Thanks.
