Question: I am 51 year old gent. Taking one Aten AM tab morning every day. BP is 120/82 I used to do strength training exercises earlier and 4 km moderate speed walking every day. Now I stopped strength training( weight training). My question is how many kilometers a day I need to walk to maintain good cardiac health?
My cholesterol level is within the limit. ECG is normal. Very mild diastolic dysfunction noticed in 2d echo. Remaining all parameters including systolic function is well within the limit as per 2D echo

Brief Answer:
It should be a combination of different exercises

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Any exercise regimen should be a combination of different types of exercises. Your question is that you have stopped strength training, so much should you walk now.

4 km would mean approximately 1 hr of walk. This much walk is good enough to have good cardiac health.

You seem to be enjoying good health. A walk upto 10 km is acceptable. You have already exceeded the average walk schedule for most people. Thus you can either stay at this level or you can slowly increase your walk by 10 min. When you develop the stamina for this extra walk, then you increase the time by 10 min. Thus reaching the 10 km mark. It is totally your choice.

Hope it helps.
