Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,
I am looking for a tablet that helps in healing cuts quickly. My wife hurt herself with a kitchen knife on her left hand near the little finger(edge of the palm). I have applied Neosporin ointment and wrapped a Band-Aid.
The incident haappened yesterday evening.
Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
For small wound this is sufficient. Please give depth and length of the cut

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
Thanks for your query.
You have done a great thing by Neosporin and applying the bandaid.

If the wound is small in size and if you have applied bandaid properly , so as to approximate the edges, this will heal on its own ( body is the best healer- we just help the body).

You can give her any antibiotic if you have left-over at home.
Give anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if there is swelling or pain.
Keeping the hand in the elevated position when in laying down position helps the best to reduce the swelling and the pain too.

If you can , please post the picture / photograph of the injury.

I hope this helps your wife.
Please let me know the depth and length of the cut and the problems your wife is facing at the moment. So that I can add on any medicine if required and also please let me know if you have any medicines at home ?

Please recommend a very good antibiotic that is without any side-effects and also helps in quick healing. She also has pain and slight swelling of the little finger.Unfortunately Ibuprofen doesn't suit her(nausea), please suggest a very good alternative.

Brief Answer:
Get a prescription for Augmentin and diclofenac and Ranitidine

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback and picture.
The picture shows you had put the bandage perfectly well.
Apply liquid Povidone Iodine (Betadine) to the wound and whole hand so that the area is made sterile.
Antibiotics need a prescription of your local Doctor. Get one for Amoxy+Clav like Augmentine 625 and she can take Diclofenac if suits her. Also Give her Ranitidine to avoid acidity / nausea. Give her the medicines for a few days if there is redness, swelling and pain.

By looking at the picture, the wound looks fine, not much of an infection.
