Question: Hi,

Can you please let me know, which all vegetarian food is good for hair growth. Also which vegetarian food helps in reducing hair fall.

Maintaining healthy and shiny hair is not a very difficult task. Following a customary routine with balanced and healthy diet always helps. Even if you do not have enough time for elaborate routines, simple tips, as mentioned below, would help you keep your hair healthy and reduce hair fall:

•     Drink plenty of water; include tender coconut water, fresh fruit juices (occasionally), fresh clear soups and buttermilk in daily diet.
•     Green tea and mild black coffee provides antioxidants to promote skin and hair health.
•     Include fibrous foods in the daily diet to support digestion and maintain regular bowel movements.
•     Take good fats, like soaked almonds and walnuts, peanut butter and liver oil capsules.
•     Include iron and protein rich foods in the diet.
•     Include avocado, red grapes, fennel, brown rice, broccoli, and protein sources like legumes, lentils and soy products in your diet.
•     Massage the scalp twice a week and cover the hair and skin with cotton cloth while going out in sun.
•     Apply hair packs once a week to nourish and moisten the hair. Coconut milk pack is easy to prepare and apply. To prepare it, grate one coconut and squeeze out its milk, cook the coconut milk over moderate flame for 5 mins. Cool and apply for 45 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo.
•     Avoid chemical treatments like coloring and keep the hair safe from heat treatments like blow-drying and pressing.

You may also take a homemade biotin shake once a week. To prepare the shake take the following ingredients and blend them to get a smoothie. You may add some coconut water if it’s too thick.

Ingredients - Swiss chard 3-4 leaves, banana 1/2 , avocado 3/4 , sunflower seeds 2 tbsp. and coconut water as required.

Exercise is also important to improve the circulation of blood to the scalp. Many Yogasanas help to control hair fall try mudras like vajrasana, sarvangasana and pawanmuktasana.
