Question: My 84 year old uncle had 4 light strokes after surgery. All vitals are good but he can't wake up, even to eat. He is aware and can squeeze your hand but that's all. Is there test to also measure brain damage?

Brief Answer:
Neurological examination and brain MRI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First, there is need for further explanation about the surgical procedure that underwent your uncle ( why surgery was done ?).

Stroke is a rare complication after almost every surgical procedure mainly because of clotting abnormalities and bed rest.

There is need for neurological examination and brain imaging studies ( MRI ) in order to evaluate correctly the brain damage extension.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
