Suggest Medication For Abdominal Pressure, Bloating And Pain Caused By UTI

Question: Hello - I was diagnosed with a UTI caused by enterococcus bacteria. I was on macrobid for 7 days and it did not get rid of the infection. I have now been on 1000 mg of Cipro for 5 days and I still don't feel better. I am allergic to pennicillin and erythromycin. I am taking OTC AZO pills for the last two weeks to at least ease the pain. I have a lot of discomfort, bloating and pressure in my abdomen and bladder and I am absolutely miserable. Cipro and macrobid have worked for me in the past but they have not worked this time. do I have any other options besides hospitalization for IV antibiotics?

Hi there and welcome to HCM,
Yes there are other options like using other sensitive antibiotics against the bacteria which is causing the infection.
I am sorry for your condition. First thing I would suggest to you is to get a urine culture and sensitivity test done by which it would be clear for which antibiotic this infection is sensitive to.
After getting results you can switch to that particular antibiotic after checking into your Urologist .
Thanks

Thank you for your response. According to the initial culture, macrobid was supposed to be the best one to take but it didn't help at all. Cipro was also listed but that's not helping either. Am I at risk of it becoming a kidney infection since the bacteria isn't being killed off?
Brief Answer:
There is possibility that infection can progress to kidney infection as you
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I can understand your concern. There is possibility that infection can progress to kidney infection as you are thinking but only if the initial infection is not cured. However, other possibility is alternative diagnosis. That means that your symptoms could be due to some other things as well.
Investigations like Ultrasound Abdomen/KUB could help to narrow it down .
Discuss these with your treating physician and if any further queries let me know.
Thanks
