Suggest Medication For Back Pain

Posted on Wed, 14 Oct 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have been lifting weights for several years now and haven't had any serious injuries.
I was lifting weights earlier today and seem to have twisted my lower back muscle (I heard something twist in my lower back, left of the spine, just above the buttocks). This area had affected me a year ago and I had taken medication to heal it.

It now hurts when I bend or generally move about and I would like to heal it as soon as I can. Can I take ibuprofen 200 mg to relieve the pain? What other medication or treatment would you recommend?

Please help. I would like to get back to lifting weights soon.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Slip disc. Yes. You cab take Ibuprofen 400mg and Thicolchicoside 8mg twice

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

It appears that you have nerve compression of the back due to possible slipped disc.

The pain will occur in the lower back region that can radiate to the legs below the knees.

Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights.

Apply a hot water bottle to the painful regions which is very good for relieve from muscle spasm.

You can take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day and also muscle relaxant Tablet Thicolchicoside 8mg twice a day, both for 5 days.

Kindly get an MRI lumbosacral spine done to look for the nerve compression if the pain is not being relieved or is severe.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

You may go to work

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

You can go to work but kindly follow ergonomics at work. Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights. Sit with adequate back and neck support.

Do daily brisk walking exercise within your tolerance and limits.
