There is nothing like difference between myoclonic jerks and PLMD.There are several causes of myoclonic jerks,out of which PLMD is the one.
PLMD is characterized by myoclonic jerks during sleep(nocturnal myoclonus) which appear at regular periodic intervals.This can be taken as the hallmark feature of PLMD.Other causes may have myoclonus at daytime(while awake),not necessarily with regular periodicity.
