Suggest Medication For Severe Back Pain And Flu
Every year I seem to experience excruciating 8/10 pain in my back.
Location: Lower back
Relief: Drink 5x 250ml glasses of water (this is the only non-medication relief that works). As soon as I urinate, the pain comes back and I must drink 5 glasses again and wait 30 minutes for pain to subside. Pain is so bad that I cannot sleep.
However, this only happens about 1 time each year. I believe it might be caused either by getting a flu or by dehydration, sometimes after a few nights of drinking (on vacation) it happens.
History
2015 - Flu symptoms for 4 days: cold sweats, no appetite, no headache, sore throat
2014 - Only back pain
2013 - Only back pain
Could be renal stone
Detailed Answer:
Hello , Welcome to HCM
Thanks for the query
The pain you are describing is typical of renal stone. Stretching of the bladder often relieves pain and I have seen this phenomenon in several patients of mine with uretric stone. I do not think it is related to spine; spinal pain does not subside immediately and it is unlikely to be related to drinking of water.
Here is how you should go about it
1. Drinking plenty of water and keeping yourself well hydrated. You must avoid dehydration to prevent stones
2. Avoid cabbage, aerated drinks and chocolate
3. Get yourself tested with an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis to look for stone. However it can be missed if the stone has passed off in urine
4. For the flu like symptoms I suggest you to take Tab PARACETAMOL 650mg three times a day after food for 3 days , if you are not better in three days please approach you doctor for further investigations
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
