Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question. Because there are several different medications which can be used to control cough.

There are multiple liquid formulation which might have some codeine which can be an effective cough suppressant. If this is not working we sometimes use another medication called Tessalon which comes in a tiny gel capsule.

If the coughing is related to inflammation of the airway we sometimes use prednisone which is a steroid medication for a short course.

I suspect the coughing is related to inflammation of the alarm from the resolving pneumonia. I would suggest you contact her physician to talk about potential options in terms of prescriptions. It might be reasonable to try and alternative cough suppressant to the one she's currently taking now.

Thanks again for sending the question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
