Suggest Medicine For Stitch Marks Near Navel Post Laparoscopic Surgery
My wife had undergone laproscopic surgery for removal of gall bladder on 1st Aug 2015.
There were 4 incisions made. Out of these one was in navel so its not visible but other 3 were having 3, 2 and 2 stitches respectively.
Now, she is worried about the stitch marks. Could you suggest some medicine/ointment which she may take/apply which can help in reducing the signs of stitches? Thanks.
Just clean the area as explained and wait and watch till 3 weeks are over
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and nice to see you again.
Stitch marks:
Always a big question mark for everyone, and these are so obvious in the initial period due to different color than the skin.
The scar maturation take 3 weeks for a good strength, 3 months for restructuring and 9 months for complete healing after which the changes are least possible.
Since your wife has been operated on a few weeks ago, do not worry about the scar at such an early stage.
We have seen many patients where the scar is absolutely not visible after a certain point, we have to find out many times where the scar was.
This depends partially upon the healing characters if the skin and underlying tissues of every person. If at all any of her old injury anywhere in the body (in the past) shows minimal or no scar tissue these too will not be seen later.
If those old scars are visible, she may need active treatment.
The best policy at the moment is to wait and watch, observe her old injuries if she had in past/childhood (everyone fall on the knee in the childhood).
I would advise her the following:
Clean the abdomen with soap and warm water to clean off the any marks of dressing material, scabs over the scars and let them be well exposed to aeration.
Let the body take care for 3 weeks.
See the response and then we should decide whether scar needs assistance for vanishing or not, meaning the healing by the body itself has no alternative.
After 3 weeks she may apply either contractubex gel (Win Medicare in India)or home-made gel. Home-made gel is an mixture of equal amount of Lip-guard (Purest of Vaseline) and honey, needs very small quantity as it is made daily. To me this have given the best results even in burn marks. (The company which made this as ready to use ointment has stopped production) So the best way is to make at home taking small equal quantities of both and lightly massaging on the scar tissue.
Never to rub it hard, as this will increase the scar tissue.
I hope this answer helps your wife.
We shall take care of the scar from time to time. Only cleaning at the moment.
