Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX
Welcome to health care magic,
Although medication are the gold standard to control blood pressure nowadays, one can control blood pressure by some life style changes and dietary measures for which I would like to know your blood pressure readings for which you have been started telma.
Below are some tips to maintain or control blood pressure between desirable range.
1) Remove your cause of mental tension or stress or worries. If the reason is your office night shift then it would be better to avoid night shift.
2) Mental tensions can often be reduced by a brisk walk, laugh loudly and relaxation or meditation. In fact, if you daily practice meditation, you can control your blood pressure for ever.
3) Maintain your weight if you are obese. Exercise more often.
Since excess body fat is a primary risk factor in hypertension, it is important to maintain a healthy weight.
Brisk walking, bicycling, raking leaves, and gardening are the best exercises.
4) Follow a low fat diet. Eliminate cholesterol and salt from your diet.
Do not eat foods that contain soda, sodium, Na, monosodium glutamate, baking soda and preservatives.
5) Restrict consumption of refined sugars.
6) A high fiber diet is recommended.
7) Increase intake of potassium, magnesium, calcium and vitamin C.
Potassium rich foods include banana, orange, tangerine, beans, dried peas, potatoes, etc.
Magnesium rich foods include almonds, cashews, pecans, rice, banana, potatoes, kidney beans, oat XXXXXXX peas, soy, wheat germ, etc.
Calcium rich foods include low fat dairy foods, nuts, watercress, XXXXXXX broccoli, turnip greens, collard greens, mustard greens, etc.

I work at night as journalist. I can stop working after retirement.
I practice yoga meditation for spiritual growth.
I am vegan. So I can follow your diet instructions.
I am not obese. I am 68kg & my age is 59. Hope that is normal.
My BP reading was 120/220 after duty at night. After 8 hour sleep it is 100/150. This reading was last year's. I have not gone to any doctor in one year. There's no health issue. Not even colds & cough. I will try physical exercises or brisk walking as suggested by u.
Thanks and regards. XXXXXXX XXXX
Take appropriate anti-hypertensives to control blood pressure.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow-up.
It is good that you are not obese and can do yoga-meditation but 220/120 mmhg blood pressure is too high so,it must be brought down to the normal
(around 120/80 mmhg) by appropriate anti-hypertensives as per your physician's choice.
In addition,i would suggest you to undergo lipid profile,Liver and renal function tests with ECG and Echocardigraphy of heart to evaluate the heart condition.
What i have suggested earlier could be followed but once you control your blood pressure by proper anti-hypertensives.
So,it would be better you start medications at earliest.
