Brief Answer:
Can be treated with medicines and physiotherapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your sister is having degenerative disc changes at L4-L5 and L5 - S1 level. There is mild disc prolapse at L4-L5 level with nerve root compression causing the pain and other symptoms. The main treatment of such pain is bed rest along with pain killers and muscle relaxants. Surgery is not immediately needed and it does not retard the further progression of the problem. Surgery should be kept as a last resort when all other treatment measures fail to provide relief. A muscle relaxant can help with her symptoms if used in appropriate dosage in combination with a potent analgesic.
You can get the appropriate drugs prescribed from her Orthopedician after examination.
Local analgesic gels and hot fomentation may provide a short term relief. She can use analgesic gels like Volini gel. Exercise is not advisable in the times of acute pain.
Using an LS contour belt of appropriate size might be helpful in providing support to back muscles.
Such minor symptoms are usually taken care of by Methylcobalamin supplements which she can take after consulting her orthopedician.

Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement.
Regular physiotherapy is needed to retard the further progression of these degenerative changes once the acute pain subsides.
I hope this answers your query.
