Brief Answer:
Preventive measures for Pancreatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello there

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern and presume he has been getting treatment for acute on chronic pancreatitis.

Its nice to hear that he is nonalcoholic,as alcohol is a common risk factor associated with recurrent pancreatic attacks .

I would like to suggest the following measures which would help prevent recurrent pancreatic attack:

1) Getting proper advice from a doctor before taking any medications or dietary supplements.

2) Follow up every 3 months with serum enzyme tests(AST,LDH,amylase and lipase etc),complete blood count and renal function test(BUN,creatinine).USG abdomen may be considered too after 6 months to review the pancreas status.

3) Encourage easy to digest foods after oral liquids in the initial period of recovery(for few weeks) and gradually switch over to regular diet as advised by his doctor.

4) Discourage high fatty diet(deep fried foods, junk foods etc) and also high protein diet(avoid red meat particularly).Proteins in the form of poultry meat, egg white, beans etc can be encouraged later.
Based on the tolerance, enzyme supplements he is taking if any etc,his treating doctor would advise the appropriate diet..

5) Avoiding or limiting simple sugar containing foods and beverages(sweets, beverages, coffee etc)

6) Encourage fruits, green vegetable salads along with regular diet is highly recommended

7) Encourage consuming oral liquids(plain water, tender coconut water etc) if not contraindicated.

8) Smoking cessation if he does smoke.

9) Treating the underlying cause like infections, gall stones etc if still persists as advised by your treating doctor.

10) Encourage daily tolerable level of physical activity..

Hope i have answered your query. If any clarifications, don't hesitate to ask.

Regards
