Suggest Proper Treatment For ADHD

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: Hi. So, several months ago my psychiatrist of almost 8 years moved, leaving the city for good. I sesrched around and also based on recommendation i chose a provider. I have already gone to two diff doctors and it went from bad to worse. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 11 and i have been in treatment for it ever since. I have tried almost all meds for this but currently i was taking 20mg of aderrall 3 times daily so 60 mg a day. The first provider i went to was just completely uninterested in even listening to me and just wanted to rush me out of there getting the ARNP to write me a script. I did not feel the type of rapport that should be present w your dr so i kept looking. This last provider basically told me that even though i had been diagnosed, he had not made the diagnosis and so for him to treat me i had to undergo a $400 adhd test w him and an ekg... Mind you, i take paperwork from my original physician... I thought this was completely ludicrous bc ita like a patient telling you they were diagnosed w diabetes and another dr telling them "well that doesnt mean anything unless i say so youre not"
Anyways, i wanted to know if there was a doctor you could recommend or if there is a dr in your network who provide me the ability to continue proper treatment for my condition. Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
ADHD is a very subjective diagnosis, especially in adults. But the fact that you were seeking treatment since the age of 11 and the fact that you feel good when you are medications and do not feel good when you are not on medicines suggest that your diagnosis of ADHD is genuine and the second doctor should ideally have stuck to the diagnosis.
We could have helped you with the prescription, however, as health care magic is an online forum, legally we are not supposed to prescribe medications without physically examining you.
