Suggest Remedies For Allergy To Aluminium Sulfate
Question: My daughter had a reaction to stingose a couple days ago. I applied it to several mosquito bites and as the second dose was drying it started to really hurt her. As I was washing it off, I noticed she had a pink rash on her chest which was gone by the following morning. The main ingredient is aluminium sulfate. I am wondering if I should just avoid Stingose or if this could have more widespread implications... for instance is this a widespread ingredient? Could it mean she is allergic to aluminim or sulfate on their own? If it is the sulfate would that suggest a sensitivity to sulphites in food? or sulpha drugs? Thanks

Suggestion on aluminium sulfate and allergy
Detailed Answer:
Hi...sorry to have misunderstood your question.
Usually aluminium sulfate is used as an to reduce allergic reactions. But in medicine there is some thing called Idiosyncratic reaction - which means - a drug or compound which does not cause any reaction or does not have any effect on the majority of the population can cause reaction or side effects to a specific individual.
Coming to your child - I feel she is definitely allergic to aluminum sulfate. The same drug might not have caused any reaction in the past, but it has caused now. By the history you give, it seems like a cause and effect relationship to me.
Coming to your queries -
1. Aluminium sulfate is a wide spread ingredient, it is used as a hypoallergenic component is many drugs and even vaccines like human papilloma virus vaccine.
2. She might be allergic to aluminum sulfate here after on further exposures.
3. I do not think this is sulpha drug allergy. But whenever you approach a doctor I suggest you to mention this episode as they will be cautious in using a sulpha drug (whose usage is decreasing now a days).
4. Right now there is no way to find out specifically if she is allergic to aluminum or to sulfate.
