Suggest Remedies For An Underarm Cyst

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I have an underarm cyst that was recently sore and red. It ruptured and drained a thick, yellow pus about two days ago. Now it is just draining a clear yellow fluid with a small amount of blood in it. It is not NEAR as sore as it was and I can feel the empty round sac under the skin. Is it healing or should I see a doctor? I just started a new job and my old insurance expired last week and my new insurance doesn't kick in for about 3 weeks so I'd rather wait until I have insurance, but if it is something that needs to be addressed, I can go to the doctor sooner.

Hello and welcome,

I see that you took an antibiotic (Cefdinir) and assume you were under a doctor's care when this was prescribed for the infection?

If the infection appears to be improving steadily (no further pus, less sore, no increasing redness in the area), then you can watch and wait. Apply hot wet compresses to it several times a day.

Watch the area carefully, and if you start to notice any return of the infection, pus, the cyst filling up again, increased redness, pain, then do not wait, go in to be seen immediately.
