My 10 1/2 month old had a white film inside his mouth and had stopped eating... pediatrician said thrush and nystatin. 5 days later he started running 103.6 fever. Went to urgent care and had strep test that was negative. Dr. started him on amoxicillan. 2 days later, my son was still no better. Went back to our regular pediatrician... bloodwork, urinalysis, stool sample. White blood count was 15,000. We got a rocefin shot. Next morning, bloodwork again and white blood count was 11,000. Started him on omnicef for severe tonsillitis. He still has blisters in the corners of his mouth but no white film after being on nystatin for 15 days. Also 2 doses of purple liquid... Now has blisters on thighs, rectum, knees and wrists. I called on call pediatrician and he said maybe viral? Could this be hand foot mouth disease? And can this be serious?
