Suggest Remedies For Arm Pain Post An Injury
Question: My 9 yr old daughter was pushed down at her soccer game and fell on her arm and the other girl then proceeded to step on her arm. This was 4 days ago. She has no bruising or swelling but is in pain. She tries to use it but it causes too much pain for her. I have hesitated to take her for xrays due to the fact there is no swelling or bruising. How long should I wait to take her for xrays and is it possible to have a fracture without swelling or bruising?
Thank you
Thank you
Brief Answer:
There should be x rays as soon as possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Swelling and bruising can not be there in all cases. So absent of these symptoms does not rule out any bony injury. As she is still having pain I would suggest you to get her x rays as soon as possible. Till you get that x rays she should take Brufen 200 mg one daily for pain relief. Do not do any manipulation or massage as it can further complicate things.
Let me know if their is any other followup questions.
thanks

Thank you. She does have a yearly physical in 2 days or should I not wait that long? I have her wearing a wrist brace for now.
Brief Answer:
You need x rays before this physical
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would recommend you to et x rays before physical. As some time physical examiner can cause manipulation of injured limb. Better to get x ray and splinting of the hand.
thanks

They didn't give me a copy of the x-rays but they said no obvious fracture. Come back in a week if it doesn't get any better. Hairline fracture maybe??
Brief Answer:
It would be good if you can share x rays with me
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would like to see X ray my self. It can be a torus fracture where there is just bending of bone. Hairline fractures are rare in children as their bone are very soft. Any way you should avoid any massage or bandage. Ask your daughter to avoid putting load on the affected side.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if their is any other followup questions.
