Suggest Remedies For Constant Dizziness In An Elderly Woman

Need some further details regarding..
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX , welcome to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern..
At this point I would like to know some more details about her..
Is she a known hypertensive (on any current medication) ?? (I can understand that you've taken the blood pressure quite precisely still asking due to some reasons, let me know so that I can clarify further) ..
Any other medical condition (apart from obesity) ?? Any particular medication that she's taking ??
Does she snore during the sleep ??
Is her appetite fine ?
Any problem in bowel habits ?
How is the pain (I can understand that she's already been through quite some surgeries) ??
Any other problem apart from the dizziness and unrest feeling ?? any palpitation/anxiety/indigestion/excessive sweating/fatigue/breathing difficulty ??
Please let me know the complete details of her medications ..
When was her last health check-up done ? How were the reports ? If possible please upload the reports so that I can have a detailed look at them and guide you in a better way..
If no health check-up was done in recent past then it's high time to consider one in this regard..I'll let you know about them in details but please let me know the about the other details at first..
Awaiting for your reply..
Kind Regards..

Thank you for the response.
My mom is not hypertensive and there is no medication for it. She does snore and has less appetite (regularly). Less here means slightly less than a normal lady of her age and build. I want to remind that she is obese.
I would say that I have not observed anything other than breathing difficulty - occasionally but do know that she doesn't have a peaceful sleep.
She does take medicine (Veratim) occasionally - I can't remember the name of the disease right now. Something that has to do with shoulder/neck issues and the patient usually feels dizzy most of the times.
The issue that I have a challenge is that she stops the medicine when she starts feeling better and family member have to be constantly monitor for her to take medicines. But yes, she is careful with her health though when the issue flares up. I know this is a real bad habit.
Her complete health check-up was done about 2 years ago when hernia was operated upon.
Right now, I need to tell u this as well - she has a problem with her eye lids - The lids tend to become heavy starting now and by evening half of her eye is closed because of the drooping of the lids. Can this cause the issue?
Do I need to take her for a sleep apnea test?
Please help.
Thanks,
XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Welcome back,
Yes I've gone through your detailed response and really appreciate your observation in this regard..
First of all I think you're referring to 'VERTIN' and not 'VERATIM'.. isn't it ??
It's good that your mom's not a hypertensive however I'm a bit concerned about the diastolic BP reading(assuming it was measured correctly)..
Also at the same time I'd recommend you to get it checked by some experienced medical professional at sitting/lying down position and also maintaining proper BP cuff (in obese person' quite often the BP calf tends to get undersized so bigger size required)..at least 3 reading and taking the mean reading..while make sure that your mom's resting and not anxious about it..
Now breathing difficulty during sleep is definitely needed proper physical examination and investigation..
Firstly I'd like to inform you that it needs thorough check-up of the upper respiratory tract as well as the accessory organs of breathing because due to obesity there can be several structural alterations (internally as well as externally ) which can be detected after a thorough physical examination by any experienced Pulmonologist & / Sleep medicine specialist..
If it's an acquired deformity and functional disorder, then there are certain ways to correct them with several advanced medical devices, but in order to do that , it has to be detected in the first place ..
Yes , the drooping of eyelids(from your description , it's quite apparent that there's nothing wrong with the eye-lids, it's called Somnolence), less than normal appetite , anxiety , uneasiness , restlessness everything is related to inadequate sleeping as well as disturbed sleeping pattern..
Yes, 'Sleeping Pattern' matters largely , make sure that she lies down in lateral position and not on her back, it'll help..also using a relatively larger size of pillow often given relief..
At this point I'd suggest you to take appointment of an Experienced Pulmonologist and / Sleep medicine specialist for a thorough physical check-up as management depends on the finding..Whether she needs a Sleep Study(Sleep apnea is a pathological finding which can be detected after examination only)
Secondly , it's time to consider a few investigations like Arterial Blood Gas analysis, CBC, Electrolytes(specially Sodium, Potassium and Calcium) LFT , KFT , Lipid Profile, a 2D-Echo Cardiography(to check out the Morphology of Cardiac chambers as well as Pulmonary Vessels), Chest X-Ray(PA view) Urine R.M(morning sample and mid-stream) +/- Sleep Study..
So with all these we'll get to know the current status of her as well as be able to rule out certain other metabolic dysfunctions and the clearer picture in this regard..
I hope your doubts are clear now.. so please act accordingly and it's just a matter of time to get the exact diagnosis as well as management so to speak..
Let me know her progress in this regard later on..
Take Care
Kind Regards
