Suggest Remedies For Fever, Cold And Throat Infection In An Infant
My daughter is one year eight months old. Since last ten days she was down with fever upto 100 F. Doctor gave oflox for five days since she was not having loose motion but stools were frothy.
After giving oflox for five days her fever shoot to 104 F with mild cold and same position of stool. We underwent stool routine examination which showed 4-6hpf pus cells. Doctor analysed that high fever is viral in nature with
throat infection not very severe
and didn't give any medicine for that.
However since there were pus cells in stools he gave cefolac 100.and meftal
Now the problem is that she gets fever upto 104 F every 4-6 hours due to which she has got quite weak and is not eating anything.its been three days her fever is same.
We are quite worried since she is having stomach infection alongside viral fever.
Please suggest what we should do.
Control fever, blood culture/ sensitivity, Hydration & feeding. Probiotics.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.
1) First of all do not panic.
2) Please start with tepid sponging of the baby, by wiping the body with cloth moistened with normal tap water and then wipe dry. Give prescribed medicine containing Paracetamol or Mefenamic acid to control the fever. Do not allow temperature to rise above 100F.
3) If fever is recurring, then blood culture and sensitivity test is must. As baby has already given couple of antibiotics- Oflox and Cefolac, do not restart new antibiotic as on now.
I will also suggest pre-probiotic containing Lactobacilli to be started. This will help to restore helpful bacteria in the intestine. Also, keep baby hydrated and give soft and easily digestible foods.
4) Once the c/s test reports are available then appropriate antibiotic can be started with the opinion of treating pediatrician.
I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
Wish you great health.
