Suggest Remedies For Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After A Medical Abortion
Question: Is there any way to speed up the bleeding after a medical termination? I had the tablets inserted into my vagina 6 days ago and I'm still passing a lot of blood and clots, it's also starting to smell bad, I just want it to be over with! Thank you.

Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
Iam Dr.Srilatha gynaecologist.I have gone through your query.
Usually the medical termination of pregnancy is possible only upto 6 -7 weeks.
I would like to know the following things for better suggestions:-
1)What medicines were inserted into vagina?
2)Was that done under doctor supervision?
3)When was the bleeding started?
Kindly provide me the information.
Looking forward to hear from you.

I took Mifepristone orally on Tuesday 12th XXXXXXX then on Thursday 14th XXXXXXX I took 4 Misoprostol vaginally. This was all done in hospital by nurses. The bleeding started about an hour and a half after the 4 tablets were inserted into my vagina. I was definitely just over 8 weeks because I had to have a scan the week before. Also I have a rhesus negative blood group and was given an anti-D injection after the tablets were inserted in my vagina to prevent anti-bodies forming.
Brief Answer:
Heavy bleeding might be there
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,goodday.
Thanks for the information.
It is good to know that the procedure was done under medical supervision.
As the period of pregnancy is more ie.,over 8 weeks the amount of bleeding will be heavy and prolonged too.
So the bleeding is heavy. And the heavy bleeding might be associated with smell.
But if you get altered blood associated with foul smell then you might need a course of antibiotics.
Prolonged bleeding might be there even for a month but with decreased amount.
I suggest you to check for bleeding and if the same condition persists even further I suggest you to consult doctor for the evaluation of your general condition and physical examination.
There will not be any possibility to give medicines to decrease the bleeding because it might effect the abortion process.
Also ultrasound might be needed after a week to know the status of abortion.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
