Suggest Remedies For Nausea After Taking Acetaminophen
Question: 90 year old otherwise healthy woman, surgery for bowel obstruction Wednesday. No further pain or nausea. Regular prescriptions are hydrochlorothiazide, simvastatin, pantoprazole, lunesta. Prescription coming home from hospital Friday: hydrocodone-acetaminophen 5-325. Took one hydrocodone-acetominophen early evening yesterday, has not felt well since, nauseous and "discomfort," no pain. Did not take Lunesta last night, exhausted and "spent." Bowels moving regularly, audible bowel sounds.
Will not take another H-A - other advice? Now cautious about food intake again.

First,this is still early postoperative phase and certain degree of nausea and abdominal discomfort may be expected. However,H--A is known to cause specific abdominal side effects and general fatigue. Other medications that you take should not have such side effects. Also HA should be used as short as possible due to other side effects such as addiction and sedative effect. I suggest to avoid painkillers it take nonsteroid ones such as Ketorolac. Second,you may add metoclpramide for nausea and continue with pantoprasol. Diet should include mire often but smaller meals. Avoid fried and spicy food, food that bloates and pasta. Lunesta can be taken as usual. some supplements such as Magnesium water and Iberogast may be beneficial as well. Wish you good health. Regards
