Suggest Remedies For Neck Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: I have a follow up appt today at doctor. I had a cortisone and tramadol shot last week for my neck pain. The pain is still there . Would it be wise to get another today or not. I heard that it was not good to get to many shots. Hopefully I can get a referral for an xray. All my blood work was fine. But I still have pain. I took Naproxen 500 mg last week but it didn't resolve the problem. Any suggestions I could go over with my doctor. This has been going on for a while and still no relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I am sorry for the health problems you are going through.

Steroids are potent anti-inflammatory medications used to treat inflammation associated with pain as in your case. We do prescribe the shots only in severe cases or if other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories have failed to ease the pain. This is because of their bad side effects especially in women of your age that can damage the bones.

If I was your caring doctor, if you are still having the same neck pain, would recommend steroid shots weekly and ketoprofene or diclophenac shots once daily for 5 days. You can discuss this with your doctor.

It is also important to get an X-ray of the neck to evaluate the changes locally. Furthermore, should apply anti-inflammatory cream locally and wrap the neck area with a warming pad. Massage with olive oil can also help.

Wish fast recovery!

Went to doctor. He gave me directions on neck exercises. He also did an order for xrays. He told me to continue the tizanidine 4mg for my pain that he had perscribed. My blood work was good

Happy that blood work was fine, continue as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Tiazidine is a muscle relaxant and will also help ease the pain through relaxation of neck muscles.

Ok exercise and massage of neck can help ease the pain too.

I believe you'll be good soon but need to follow your doctor's advice rigorously.

Wish fast recovery.
