Suggest Remedies For Pain And Swelling In The Legs

Question: Hello: I am a 58 yr.old female who is generally in good health. I am 5'4 and 145 lbs. My weight has been stable for my adult life. For the last several years (5) I have had pain and localized swelling beginning with a small quarter sized swelling under my right knee. My GP diagnosed me as having varicose veins and I was treated with laser ablation 3x (twice on one leg, once on the other). This has not solved the problem and in fact the swelling has continued to increase in the right leg and now in in the left. There is a burning discomfort associated with the swelling. My ankles also suffer from edema. The last vascular surgeon I consulted with felt that, after reviewing the sonogram of my legs, that the edema and pain were not related to the veins in my legs. ANY idea what I could be suffering from? Next step is an MRI.

Brief Answer:
Go for MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Ultrasonography and color doppler of the affected limbs should have correlated the pain and the swelling behind the right knee and on the other side too.
Varicose veins are by large the commonest cause.
Baker's cyst behind the knee joint cause the similar problem, hence MRI of the knee and the affected area can certainly help to get a proper diagnosis.
Please go ahead with the MRI to get a probable diagnosis.

U hope this answers your query.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
Please post the actual reports of Ultrasonography if available with you.
Does the swelling reduce on bending the knee?
