Suggest Remedies For Pain In The Penis Post Taking Urethral Swab For Examination

Question: My doctor took a urethral swab last evening to test for gonorhea and chlamydia. It hurt a lot while taking the swab. It now hurts every time I pee. The pain is more like something is obstructing the urine flow. Is this normal after a urethral swab and how long does it last. Can I use any pain medications to overcome the pain.

The doctor said I can use Pyridium(phenazopyridine) 3 times a day for 2 days to help with the main. Is the pain expected, how long does it generally last and can I take the Pyridium to relieve it. Also, when should I go back to the doctor if the pain does not stop?

The pain in penis after taking urethral swab for examination is mostly due to the trivial injury to delicate and inflamed urethral mucus membrane .

It usually last for a day or two .

However in your case since you had long standing infection it may take longer time to get resolved .

Take antibiotic like Augmentin or Ciprofloxacin along with Diclofenac twice daily .

Ensure to drink more water it will help to reduce pain .

But the pain should go away in a few days? Can there be complications after a swab? Like forming a stricture?

Stricture formation is not known after taking swab .

It is long standing infection of urethra that cause stricture formation .
