Can Antibiotics Such As Metronidazole And Cipro Raise Psa Level?
Can antibiotics such as metronidazole and cipro raise psa level. I am 60, just had gall bladder out 5 weeks ago, had infection, been the above antibiotics and IV Invanz for 3 weeks. My PSA was elevated today at 7.2. Could the antibiotics be the cause?
The information that you have provide seems inadequate like what is the indication for taking these antibiotics in the first place as it would be quite uncommon to get that antibiotic combination unless there was some serious reason and did you ever get your serum PSA earlier what was the value.
To give a generalized answer none of the antibiotics as such raise serum PSA levels unless related to other issues like a recent per rectal examination or infection of the prostate or some bigger pathology. Maybe just repeat your serum PSA in 2 weeks time to get an idea. If you have some urinary symptoms or lower abdominal or pelvic pain then better meet a urologist once.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
