Brief Answer:
Nasal decongestants will be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Ear infection occurs due to blocking of auditory tube after getting a cold. Nasal decongestants will be helpful for this. I would recommend using local nasal decongestant sprays like xylometazoline ( otrivin ) for local application twice daily. NSAIDs like ibuprofen and anti histamines like cetrizine ( zyrtec ) once daily also will be helpful. If ear drum is not broken then ear drops is not necessary. Discharge from ear will be there if it is broken.

If there is no improvement or worsening of ear ache or there is increasing in fever then it can be due to bacterial infection and in such case antibiotics will be required. I would suggest antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav in such case. This is a prescription drug and you can approach your GP in such case.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
