Brief Answer:
Need physical examination and screening for PTSD

Detailed Answer:
Good evening. I'm very sorry you went through that awful experience. I take it that since you appear to be writing this from your home that you weren't severely hurt physically otherwise, you'd be in the hospital I'd imagine.

Well, did you even go to the hospital for a checkup? If not then, the first thing that needs to happen is that you need a full checkup to be sure you don't have any physical damage.....broken bones, dislocations, internal bruising, etc. Once that has been taken care of then, you will need to be screened by some knowledgeable in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder since the other difficulties you are and likely to be suffering with in the future due to this horrible situation will be PTSD as it's referred to in abbreviation.

If you are having any sleep disturbances or nightmares because of this episode then, please let your doctor know as well. You should also know that for nightmares and violent dreams (if you're having any) there are very specific medications which have been discovered in the past few years. They are PRAZOSIN and CLONIDINE.

My first choice for most patients is PRAZOSIN and if your doctor would like to read about it in the literature and get the specifics on how to dose the medication for such parasomnias then, they should look up the author: XXXXXXX RASKIND because it is his work that has been cited and quoted as the expert in the treatment of nightmares with the specific agent of PRAZOSIN. I'm not sure who first discovered the use of clonidine for nightmares....but I avoid that medication just because it can have a much more aggressive effect on the patient's blood pressure than prazosin.

If you are having such parasomnias then, this medication may help you sleep better.

If I've adequately answered your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY and being sure to include some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating if you feel my answers/suggestions have helped? Again, many thanks for posing your questions and please let me know how things turn out.
