Suggest Remedies For Sensitivity After Filling An Hairline Fracture Of Upper Molar

default
Posted on Fri, 13 May 2016
Question: Hello again, Dr. XXXXXXX I am curious why I still have sensitivity in the area where the dentist said he placed a filling in the hairline fracture of my upper molar whenever I eat or drink something cold. I had it before and I still have it. What do you think of that? Thanks.

I meant to say I had the sensitivity BEFORE his filling, and I still have it now since he did the filling of the hairline fracture a week ago.

Brief Answer:
Make sure filling is intact..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome Back to HCM..

As per the reference to our previous discussions, if you still have sensitivity in the tooth that had a hairline fracture, can be due to causes like:

1.Filling not done appropriately and might be some area is still exposed to the outside Oral environment.

2.You might have nerve exposure.

3.Dentinal hypersensitivity, in which the small nerve endings on tooth surface becomes exposed and tooth is sensitive to cold.

As you are not relieved after getting the filling done consult with your dentist and get evaluated..
Let him do a clinical evaluation and also get an x ray of the tooth done.

Please revert back with the X ray so that I can have a look of X ray and explain you the cause and treatment of the sensitivity..

As of now you can start using desensitizing tooth paste by gently massaging it over the teeth and letting it stay for a minute (do not swallow) and then brush your teeth with the same..

Any further questions are welcome

Thanks and regards.

Thank you kindly. I will follow up. I notice the sensitivity has been when I mainly bite into cold food, even soft, from the refrigerator. Not so much with cold liquids.

Brief Answer:
Cracked tooth supposedly..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
It seems like a deeper crack in the tooth leading to sensitivity on biting..
Get checked by your dentist and get an x ray too.

As far as the discussion and symptoms we did till now, I suppose the tooth might be needing root canal treatment.

Regards
